Miramichi, NB-Baseball New Brunswick is proud to recognize two of its own as they were inducted into the Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame. Last Weekend, Billy Fleiger and Brian Richard were among the latest to be added to the wall of fame. Both Billy and Brian have contributed a great deal to the youth of their communities through their involvement in sport.
Billy Fleiger has devoted more than thirty years to the development of minor baseball on the Miramichi, primarily in Douglastown. Billy’s dedication as a coach, fundraiser and organiser has greatly benefited minor baseball in the Miramichi area.
Billy is also known for “literally” building the Douglastown ball park, much of it through his own time and efforts.
Billy has also contributed to Baseball New Brunswick, serving as a board member and zone representative since 1966.
Brian Richard’s commitment to sport is a remarkable one. Throughout his life, he’s been involved in the development of Baseball, Hockey, Softball, Track and Field, Basketball throughout the Miramichi region and beyond. In the early 1970s, in cooperation with the Newcastle Parks andRecreation department head, Brian established leagues in threedifferent sports; basketball, softball and hockey. These efforts led toorganized, competitive activities for the young, and not so young to get involved in. Brian, a gifted runner, used his organizational skills toestablish the local Miramichi River Runners Club, and also assisted inthe formation of a provincial association for runners. He has contributed to the field of journalism through is work as sports editor for the Miramichi Leader. He is also a member of several Boards including NB Sports Hall of fame and the Vice President-Adult for Baseball New Brunswick

The UNB Cougars Baseball Team, three time Canadian Intercollegiate Baseball Association National Champions,are hosting a Spring Training camp for baseball players from PeeWee to Junior.
Experienced coaches and players will work with youth baseball players to help develop skills as well as prepare for summer season. The Indoor Turf Dome will allow an upper edge for players as it provides a real baseball field setting.
