Becoming A Baseball Coach

Baseball Canada and the Association of Canada Unveil Ground-Breaking New Coaching Resources For Canada's Baseball Coaches

OTTAWA (April 11, 2011) -- Baseball Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) have joined forces to make it easier to become a trained National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) baseball coach.

Every aspect of NCCP for baseball – from the copywriting, to the design, to an interactive coaching tool on the NCCP for baseball web portal – has been redeveloped with one goal in mind: to encourage more coaches to participate in training to become NCCP certified.  All of these new resources put together will make it much easier for baseball coaches to find the NCCP courses that are right for them, and to plan their ongoing training.

“We are changing the face of sport, one sport at a time, starting with baseball,” stated Nancy Spotton, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at CAC.  “Ensuring that all of the information available to coaches is clear and consistent will make it easier for coaches to get trained. Trained coaches create better athletes and happier kids that will stay involved in sport longer and lead active, healthy lives.”

“We are very happy to launch these new coaching resources in collaboration with the Coaching Association of Canada,” said André Lachance, Baseball Canada’s Manager of Baseball Operations. “With many different divisions and classes across the country the utilization of this tool will answer the question, ‘what do I need to coach at a given level?’. This will become an invaluable resource for Baseball Canada, each provincial office, and coaches throughout Canada.

About the National Coaching Certification Program

The NCCP was developed by CAC and its partners to give coaches the additional guidance and support they need to become great coaches. The program targets 67 different sports, in both official languages, and is the recognized standard for coach training and certification in Canada.  NCCP workshops are designed to meet the needs of all types of coaches, from the first-time community coach to the head coach of a national team. Each year, more than 50,000 coaches take an NCCP workshop and since the program began, more than 1 million coaches have participated, making it one of the largest adult education programs in Canada.

About Baseball Canada

Federally incorporated in 1964 as the Canadian Federation of Amateur Baseball, Baseball Canada is the national governing body for baseball in Canada and is made up of 10 provincial associations representing players, coaches and umpires nationwide. Baseball Canada is a member of both the Canadian Olympic Committee and the International Baseball Federation. It is funded and recognized by Sport Canada and Heritage Canada, and is recognized by Revenue Canada as having charitable status.

About the Coaching Association of Canada

The Coaching Association of Canada unites stakeholders and partners in its commitment to raising the skills and stature of coaches, and ultimately expanding their reach and influence. Through its programs, CAC empowers coaches with knowledge and skills, promotes ethics, fosters positive attitudes, builds competence, and increases the credibility and recognition of coaches. Visit www.coach.ca for more information about coach education, training and support.
